Saving You:
Time, Energy & Money! |
I
went on a business trip the other day to Seattle . I flew out Thursday
morning and back that evening. In the past I haven't much enjoyed
flying. I don't do it all that often and would rather just stay on
the ground.
However, this experience was different.
I found my seat on the plane about 15 minutes before take-off and
started to read my Bible, specifically the book of Acts. Not long
after, the plane took off.
I looked down on the beautiful valley in which I live, and was overcome
with the beauty beneath me. I asked the Lord "Father, I'm amazed
by this beauty. Teach me something today in all of this. I'm quiet,
reading your word and enjoying the beauty You have created. What
would You like to say to me?"
The first thing I noticed was how green and lush everything
was. The neighborhoods looked like something out of a cartoon or
model. Each lawn beautifully landscaped with perfect precision. I
remembered leaving my house that morning and noticing the imperfections
in my own lawn. However, from up there, everything looked perfect.
Each neighborhood looked exactly the same.
From up there, I couldn't tell a "good" neighborhood from
a "bad" neighborhood. It just didn't matter. They
were all beautiful.
I saw a car traveling down an empty road. I could even see the car
was red. I couldn't tell if it was a 1976 Pinto on its very last commute
before heading to the junk-yard or if it was the latest model Mercedes. From
up there, the make, model or status of the car just didn't
matter. I started to smile as I realized the Lord was taking me through
the first lesson of my short flight.
LESSON ONE
"Desiree, Do you see now why I say not to put your
treasures here on earth but with Me in heaven? Right
now I am giving you a tiny glimpse of what I see. I look down upon
this world and see the beauty I created.
The trivial things of this world are not important in heaven. The
earth's view of success and wealth will have no
place in my Kingdom. I have given you many things to enjoy - please
enjoy them, but do not store them up as treasures, for they
will all fade away. Don't lose sleep over your neighborhood,
dead grass or the car you drive. Be thankful I have given you a
home with green grass and a car."
"For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure,
the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These
are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this
world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you
do the will of God, you will live forever." 1 John 2:16&17
(NLT)
As we ascended up through and above clouds and I lost
vision of the detailed landscape below and I picked up my Bible,
continuing to read. Later, as I looked out my window, the clouds had
cleared and the mountain terrain was visible. Each and every
mountain beautifully formed. Only the hand of God could create
such splendor. From up there I could see for miles.
I started to think about my view on earth versus my view from the
sky. If I were standing at the foot of the smallest mountain in sight
it would appear massive. Even a rolling hill is overwhelming
when standing at the foot of it.
LESSON TWO
The Lord spoke to my heart:
"Desiree, you are able to see so much more from up
here. Did you know I see everything? Do you understand that when
a mountain from earth seems massive and overwhelming I can see
the mountain from all sides?
I know where the mountain has a ridge or a drop-off. I know
where the mountain is most steep; I can see its
peak and descent. Even if you were privileged enough to climb
that mountain with an experienced climber, they can not see the
entire mountain. This climber could help and encourage you,
but only I know what's on the other side. Only I know the
results of the climb.
Desiree, I have found in you and among other followers the tendency
to lean on those around you before you lean on Me. Why is that? I
have to ask...Where is your faith? Are you putting your faith in 'experienced
climbers'? Don't put that kind of pressure on them. Just because
they have climbed the mountain does not mean they should have
to carry you over it. Only I can carry you through rough
terrain.
I have placed these climbers in your life to walk with you and
encourage you. But they can not see the big picture.
Only I can. It is silly for you to look to any human before you
look to Me, yet you often do. Come to Me first. I am your
Maker. Don't travel alone, I have given you experience
climbers for a reason. But don't forget to lean completely on Me."
There are times when life gets crazy and I lean on a friend before
I go to the Almighty Father. It's all about the big picture. He can
see our lives from start to finish and every mountain, hill, valley, lake,
ocean & pond in-between. He knows with each mountain climbed, valley
walked and lake swam character is built. Life would go
smoother if we would look directly to Him to take us through
trials and gather encouragement from the sisters and brothers He
has placed in our lives.
LESSON LEARNED
In conclusion, I made a commitment to my Maker on that
day to be a true woman of faith. "Father, you are my Creator.
You have created my life and the path before me. I will walk it looking
towards You, holding hands with the loving people you have placed
in my life. I thank you because I don't have to walk this path alone. You
are with me and I am surrounded by experienced climbers and we are
all headed Your way."
"So you see, it is impossible to please God without
faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there
is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." Hebrews
